services that we provided to our agency partners through the generosity of so many with support of our COVID-19 Urgent Needs fund. A simple statement says it all: it’s hard to stay safe at home if you don’t have a home. Most cases of homelessness begin with an eviction. And a portion of those who are being evicted are families. UnitedWay has set a goal to end family homelessness by 2025. This year’s priority is to prevent evictions through legal aid, financial assistance, and the creation of the Rental Housing Resource Center. Reducing Barriers to Employment & Advancement. UnitedWay’s Diversity Leadership Society is leading this initiative which is anchored in the belief that all adults of working age in our community should have the opportunity to obtain permanent employment with a livable wage at a workplace where they are treated with dignity and have opportunities for advancement. There’s never been a more important time for this work. Techquity. So many in our community are suffering from the digital divide. There is a direct link between household income and internet access; disparities exist by income levels. People have been left unplugged while they are staying at home. This has a tremendous impact on critical activities including virtual learning, job searching, unemployment claim filing, accessing healthcare benefits, bill paying, and shopping for essential items, just to name a few. UnitedWay is bridging the digital divide with our Techquity initiative. Right now, we’re supplying hardware and internet access to families throughout our community so they can stay connected. Over time, we will focus on community-led programmatic investments in digital equity access, skill-based volunteer experiences, technology training, and policy and systems change action. I’m proud of our work at UnitedWay. I’m proud of our community and what we all continue to do every day to answer the call. But we know this is only the beginning. There is more work that needs to be done. We invite you to visit our website to learn how you can reimagine and rebuild our future. We know that change doesn’t happen alone.
