Q: Describe your business. A: Golden Home Management helps the aging population remain in their homes by ensuring that they are well maintained and meet their needs from a safety perspective. We do both one-time jobs and long term home management. Q: How and why did you start the business? A: We have a deep desire to help the elderly age in their homes. That passion is born from our own personal experiences within our family. We had home health taking care of the person, but had to take on all of the other maintenance and safety issues associated with the home itself on our own. Luckily, we had the expertise to do light construction, home safety assessments, and manage construction contractors ourselves. But after that experience, we asked ourselves what people did when they didn’t have those skills immediately available? So we looked…and instead of finding answers, we found that there was a real need for our services. Q: What sets your company apart? A: We offer a long term concierge type relationship model to home maintenance. A project might start by installing a grab bar, but we continue to help our customers long term by taking on the overall management of the home ensuring it is well maintained and safe for the individuals living there. Q: What are your biggest challenges as a small business? A: Believe it or not, starting a business focused on a vulnerable population during a pandemic isn’t the easiest thing to do. Growth has been slow, but we are extremely excited about the traction we are getting from other complimentary businesses and the confirmation of the need for our services. Matt graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and initially started his career as a firefighter in Waterford, Wisconsin. Today, Matt continues his work as a volunteer firefighter while also running Golden Home Management. In his spare time, Matt can be found outdoors as he is an avid hunter and fisherman.
